FashArtChitecture (1)

The reason why I created this blog, was to keep my inspirations together, to share my thoughts, and to share the research I do about my fascinations. I ain't religious, but I absolutely do believe in the power of The Holy Trinity - Fashion, Architecture & Art.
What fascinates me most is the way they flow into eachother at certain points. Or even overlap partly/completely, all depends on how you define them.
Is it even possible to define them and make a distinction?
Don't they all do the same, when we talk about modern art, modern fashion and modern architecture? (when historically spoken, it's a little easier to define them because they really were separated domains that interacted little.)

Below, I want to show some rather obvious examples of the blending of The Holy Trinity, just to prove that one of them can't deny the others. And the whole point is of course why they are so connected.
The reason is quite simple: They essentially have the same goal. All three are dealing with the question about the relationship between the human body, own identity and the environment. Whether it's performance art or social housing, prêt-à-porter or a sculpture. They essentially act on the same things, and often even use similar ways to do so.

One of the most obvious links is definitely the performance that comes often with fashion and art, and by doing this performance, the actors/models/dancers/.. are defining space with their bodies, with their clothes, with their movements. Some obvious examples are Rei Kawakubo's cooperation with Merce Cunninghams Dance Company and Cindy Sherman for Comme Des Garçons (photo 1), Raf Simons' Summa Cum Laude presentation (that ís architecture, this goes way beyond performance and fashion) (photo 2) and Jiri Kylian's Bella Figura. (once again, this claims to be more space-defining than a lot of buildings!) (video)

Of course, they also share the same presentation tools, the same tools within the process and the same tools to construct 3D objects to live in: testing with scale models/ on 1:1, sketching, add detailing with technical drawings, the use of a process, ...
below: sketches by Oscar Niemeyer and Walter Van Beirendonck (photo 1), paper garments by Kris van Assche and a section of O.M.A.'s CCTVtower (photo 2)
And, more curious, they share a whole lot of styles and philosophies.
below, I made this point clear by showing you the use of deconstruction. Both fashion designers and architects create in this exact same way, by using the standard elements of fashion and architecture, and manipulating them. In this way they analyze their own grammatical language, and create an interesting play for the public between recognition and confusion. (more about that to come, one of my favourite philosophies in fashartchitecture)
On (photo 3) you can see a silhouette by Comme Des Garçons, shoes by Kris van Assche and a house by Eisenman.

The last 4 are very cool and literal combinations of fashion, art and architecture:
photo 1 - show by Raf Simons in front of a giant mirrored globe
photo 2 - silhouette by Comme Des Garçons, beautifully constructed shoe by Raf Simons and dress by Rei Kawakubo (cdg)
photo 3 - Sarcophagus designed by Walter Van Beirendonck, looks by Raf Simons
photo 4 - dress by Rei Kawakubo, and picture of an Issey Miyake show, topped with one of Maison Martin Margiela's typical trompe l'oeils.

more to come, I keep finding new inspiration!

SNEAKY PEAKY

I'm super-duper excited at the moment, because I've got a whole collection coming up!
The very very very first one! I'm quit stressing out that I won't finish in time, because I'm doing this to participate a Belgian competition, Customisez-Moi. (I have to send in my pictures the 30th of September!)
It'll be 10 silhouettes, and the whole collection is inspired by children of royalties, teenage princes and princesses. All my characters are a little shy, but full of creativity and fantasy. In my imagination they live together in the woods, where they play silly games and stay up too late. They're all pretty maidenly and naive, even though they're maybe already twentysomething.
On the pictures below you can see a few sneakpeaks with pictures, drawings and collages. Everything is done by me, and the credit for the inspirational images I have put next to them, goes unfortunately to the huge fantasyworld of Tumblr... (if you can help me to credit them properly, please do!)
I hope you're all as excited as me!!
soon there will be more!

Christopher shannon spring13

One picture says it all.
Yet I won't withhold you the other pictures of the spring 2013 collection of Christopher Shannon!
This collection has everything,
wittiness
fun
beauty
colour
wonderful accessories
a wonderful vibe!
It's been quit a long time since I liked a collection as a whole that much.
It reminded me of paradise, with colourful birds, flowers on the models faces, funny silhouettes that actually looked like some kind of birds, the fringy wigs, ...
Maybe I should also wear plastic flowers on my face? Or not...
But I'm literally dying for the pants on the first picture...
I also like the backpacks, which are a collaboration with The Cambridge Satchel Company !
Well
Here you Go!

Movin' to a new crib

means..
painting
making new curtains
planning where to put what
planning what to put in it
planning what to throw away due to the lack of space
drooling over my house room-warming party

so last month, I've been collecting a lot of inspiring images of interiors, furniture, design objects,...
Here you can see a few of them, paired with what I would wear in the new crib (in my dreams)
All interior pictures by emmas designblogg (she also gives wonderful tips to visit Stockholm!), annaleena design and weekday carnival
All clothing avaiable on oki-ni, from Maison Martin Margiela, Christopher Shannon, Gareth Pugh, JW Anderson, Rick Owens and Marc Jacobs.

I'm a huge collector of images, pictures, drawings etc., so in my future room, there will be plenty of frames to expose everything I want to see every day in a proper way..
There will be obviously too much. I'll have to be very strict to myself or my room will look like a stocking room of a museum that only shows worthless stuff..
(and omg have you seen that jacket?! Have you??)

Next: I want little Buddha/Holy Mary/Jesus/Angel-statues in my room. Painted white. I think they are funny.
silly funny, yet funny.
and the shoes. Dear mom and dad, I truly want my room at home decorated with a few dozens of these, would you finance me? I'll be a good boy, I promise.

Since I stock up every single thing I seem to like, a few of these racks would be nice too.. preferably in white, of course.

How cute is the dog??

More simple racks I like, more magazines that will be all over my place.

I should keep things simple. I won't. such a pity. look at those gorgeous golden shoes!

I'm a huge fan of cool pants. maybe I should hang mine on a wall? IN A FRAME THAT IS!
Jellyfish Jellyfish Jelly Jelly Jellyfish!
FRAAAAAMES
MORE FRAAAAAAAMES

I should stock up some glittery sparkling dazzling shiny fake diamond-brooches.
I like them.

Jacket-craving. and glass with plants. Yes there will be definitely glass! and plants! and glass! and plants!

Oh and just a daydream, can I have a room like this one day? I will play ping pong every day in these kick-ass shoes. my god yes. what a wonderful dream.
